Resignation story: I want to resign!
In 1998, I was the cupboard monitor for my 8th standard class at Jai-Hind High School in Pimpri, Pune. My class teacher assigned me the responsibility of managing the chalks, duster, grammar book, and other class items. Over time, I became one of her favorites, to the point where she even asked me to fetch her forgotten tiffin from her house.
I was quite talkative, but my good friend was the class monitor, so things went smoothly. However, he was also mischievous, and the teacher eventually replaced him with someone else. This change led the girls' monitor to start highlighting my talkative nature to the class teacher (since now boys monitor was different). One day, she informed me that she would report my talkative behavior, along with that of three other friends, to the teacher the next day.
Knowing that this would likely result in 3-4 slaps from the teacher (as physical punishment was common back then), I decided to take preemptive action by resigning from my post, hoping to avoid punishment. When the teacher entered the class and asked why I hadn't taken out the chalks and duster, I boldly declared, "I want to resign!" She was stunned and asked why. I explained that the girls' monitor was unfairly targeting me, so I wanted to resign.
Unfortunately, this had the opposite effect. Instead of 3-4 slaps, I received at least 10 and lost the post, and my three friends also got 6-7 slaps each. When my friends found out about my resignation and its consequences, they were furious and gave me another round of bashing.
The lesson I learned is that while you might believe your actions will achieve the effect you want, it's always wise to discuss your thoughts with others. Otherwise, it can lead to a lose-lose situation for you as well as others involved.
