Learning Story: Why are you jogging in hashtag#NewZealand?
In 2013, as a Marketing executive KPIT, I traveled to New Zealand along with senior VPs for an official event. After the event, we went sightseeing, and as soon as we reached a beach, the Sales VP started jogging on the shore. I was a little surprised by his behavior since I always believed that personal life should be kept separate from professional life. Although I used to jog at home, I felt awkward doing so in front of my office colleagues. However, the Sales VP emphasized that due to our hectic lives, exercise is necessary—no matter where you are.
That moment made me realize my problem: hashtag#transparency. I have different dietary preferences, like to sleep early, etc. but I never explicitly mentioned these during professional outings to colleagues. As a result, my colleagues and seniors think that I avoid them or that I am a loner since I did not go along with them to specific restaurant or night outing.
Since that incident, I’ve been transparent about my preferences during professional outings, making it easier for both me and my colleagues to manage accordingly.
P.S. In the video below, taken during my recent family outing while jogging at hashtag#Diveagar Beach, I remembered the above incident
