Until 2014, I took pride in my marketing skills and my ability to create impressive presentations. However, my friend Tushar Alva suggested that I needed to develop an expertise in an area. This advice started a chain of thoughts that led me to join ZS as a pharma consultant in Nov 2015. At that time, I had no knowledge of pharmaceutical industry or basic skills like Excel or SQL.
Interestingly, my daughter was born just a day before I joined ZS. Her journey from a newborn to a smart 8-year-old girl paralleled my own growth from a novice in the world of pharma consulting to a professional with some skillsets.
When she was 2 year old, she began learning alphabets, simple poems and numbers. Despite her limited vocabulary, she managed to construct long and complex sentences. Similarly, with my limited excel knowledge gained in the 2 years period, I started quality checking large excel workbooks.
When she was 4, she started communicating in English, albeit with grammatical errors. Around the same time, I began interacting with clients independently, although many of my on the call ideas were not apt for the problem at hand.
Now, as an 8 year old, she is proactively invited in activities like dancing, painting, skating, and Olympiad exams. Similarly, I am invited to multiple client calls, brainstorming sessions, and product development meetings.
Our learning paths intersected recently when my daughter asked me, "Daddy, you always mention ‘Data’ during your office interactions. What exactly do you do as a pharma consultant?”
This question seems to validate that my efforts in learning have yielded some results. My daughter recognizes me as a pharma consultant! (or at the very least, she thinks I am a pharma consultant)
