Hostel story: "Exit before it is too late"

In the 2nd semester at COEP Technological University in 2004, I moved to college hashtag#hostel room. Unfortunately, I ran into some challenges with my roommate. The issue was our contrasting lifestyles - I was an early bird, while he was a night owl. I enjoyed greeting the morning with open windows and fresh air, but he preferred them closed as he often slept till noon. I was comfortable with the fan at a low speed, while he preferred it at a high speed.

After a three month stay, the situation became difficult for me. Fortunately, there was an available bed in a nearby room. With just another month and a half left in the semester, I could have let my ego dictate my actions, insisting on staying in my own allotted room.

However, I chose to relocate to the other room. In this new room, my roommates were also early risers, and interestingly, the room didn’t have a ceiling fan :)

Following my switch, my former roommate approached me, wondering if his behavior had triggered my room switch. I reassured him that it was beneficial for both of us to have our own spaces separately. While he had been good acquaintances and roommates until then, this incident strengthened our bond, and we remained good friends for the next three years until we graduated. Had I continued for another one and a half month, we might have not ended on good terms.

Sometimes, it is wise to make an early exit rather than waiting for situations to deteriorate completely.
