Exercise Story: The Importance of Warming Down
A couple of months ago, I went for a jog on the farm over the weekend. Since it was getting late and I wanted to avoid a “difficult” conversation with my wife, I immediately started the three-hour drive home. The next day, my neck and shoulders hurt so much that I had to take Diclofenac, a strong pain relief medication.
The doctor explained that while I had exercised properly, I hadn’t stretched or warmed down afterward. In my rush to get home and avoid repercussions, I neglected to take the time to ensure my body was in good shape.
Similarly, over the past two months, our entire team worked on a demanding HCP targeting project. We executed the project well but forgot to “warm down”—we didn’t take the time to check the integrity of our deliverable.
This isn’t the same as quality checks; it’s about taking a moment to think through each parameter and ensure they all make sense.
Like warming down, these are small adjustments that can be made quickly. For example, we should have used KPI 1 instead of KPI 2 for weight calculations. Using the wrong KPI had major implications on the calculations, which could have been easily avoided if we had taken the time to “warm down.
