Bus story: How I nearly ended up in a rear-end collision?
In 2013, shortly after learning to drive car š, I was driving to Baramati highway. Still within Pune city limits, I was driving near the divider on the four-lane highway. Back then, Google Maps and Android phones weren't as common. While driving at 50 kmph speed, I suddenly spotted a right turn. Thinking it was the turn to Baramati, I abruptly stopped the car, as turning right at that speed wasn't possible.Ā
Without me knowing (being new, I wasn't used to checking the rearview mirror), a State Transport bus was following closely behind and had to brake even more suddenly to avoid colliding with my car. Realizing my mistake, I apologized to the bus driver and thanked him for his quick thinking in averting an accident. First, he gave me a piece of his mind š and then offered a simple tip: "Whenever taking a turn, slow down and, most importantly, use your indicator!" šØāāļøĀ
Since that incident, I've applied this lesson to my professional life as well.Ā
For example, instead of pulling down a Tableau dashboard š , even though the client home office has approved, we ramp down (slow down) the resourcing (freeze data and no further refreshes) and send 2-3 communicationsš to stakeholders that the dashboard will be pulled down on a specific date (give indicator).Ā
P.S. š I intentionally ask the team to keep the dashboard for another week after the last intimated date (there are always a few users who check it after the last day).
