Resignation story: "What do you need to Stay?"

In 2014, I decided to resign from my position as a marketing executive after receiving a new job offer. I had been with the same team for three years and would have left sooner if I had found another opportunity earlier. While I had significant learning experiences, there were work culture issues within the team.

Senior members received rapid promotions, while juniors were overlooked. In the marketing team, work is often subjective, and seniors took credit for the efforts, making it appear to the department head that they were responsible for all the achievements. From my perspective, this was far from the truth. Moreover, managers frequently belittled juniors with remarks like, "You are new to the team," "This should have been taught in your B-School," and "You can't even handle this simple task."

After submitting my resignation, my department head called me into his office (my managers wanted to retain me).

Department Head: "What do you need to stay? A promotion, more money, a change in work, or leading some conference? Just name it, and I'll offer it."

Me: "I need my respect back!"

(retrospectively this sentence seems like the iconic dialogue "मेरे पास माँ है")

Silence and I was out of the room!
