BI story: How do you generate insights rather than just reporting?
Since 2016, I have am reporting pharma commercial data across various BI (Business Intelligence) platforms like MSTR, Tableau, etc. As the project lead, formulating KPIs and developing dashboards seems challenging. However, please note that socializing these dashboards and encouraging user engagement is even more challenging. Users will only interact with dashboards if they find them valuable and insightful.
This is where my inspiration from the Google Fit app comes into play. Google Fit has revolutionized the way we view steps and exercise by introducing Heart Points. Like other fitness apps, it tracks steps, distance, and time, but it also converts these metrics into a meaningful KPI called Heart Points. For a healthy lifestyle, 150 Heart Points 💓 are required each week (2 Heart Points for each minute of vigorous activity, such as running). 🏃♂️➡️
Similarly, in our dashboard reporting, we have started using derived KPIs.
In addition to reporting TRx, we now report the weekly TRx run rate (Total TRx / number of weeks completed) and the TRx run rate required to achieve the quarterly goal.
For example, if your TRx run rate up to fifth week is 10 per week, then for the remaining seven weeks of the quarter you will need 15 TRx per week to reach the goal.
This approach has transformed TRx reporting into TRx insights 🔅.
Inspired by the Google Fit app's method of converting data into actionable insights, you can also plan to incorporate insightful, actionable KPIs into your dashboards.
