Pharma story: How many types of pharmacy data are there?

I began my pharma consulting career at ZS directly as a Consultant (Associate, Associate Consultant and then Consultant is the hierarchy). Initially, I had no background in the pharmaceutical field, having avoided Biology and anything related to the human body since 11th grade. While processing my first Incentive Compensation (IC), I encountered terms like Specialty Pharmacy and Rx distributor data. Life seemed straightforward: the distributor sent the drug to the Specialty Pharmacy, and the patient received it from there.

However, over the years, I came across various data sets such as 852 inventory data, 867 shipment data, 3PL (Ex-factory) data, retail pharmacy data, and more. Ignorance was bliss, but as I needed to develop dashboards based on these different data sets, understanding them became inevitable.

1. ERP or 3PL data: Combining 3PL and ex-factory data provides a comprehensive view of the supply chain, from production to final delivery.

1.1> Exfactory data tracks Production Volumes, Shipment Details, Inventory Levels, & Sales tracking across distribution channels.

1.2> Additionally, there is 844/849 chargeback processing data

1.3> 850/855 purchase orders data

2. Distributors data: By combining 852 & 867 data, you get product's market visibility, sales performance, and inventory management

2.1> 852 inventory data: Amount of product available, inventory levels at various points in the supply chain, and inventory movements.

2.2> 867 shipment data: Includes information about the product sold, the quantity, the location, and the date of the sale.

3. Specialty pharmacies focus on dispensing medications for complex, chronic, and rare conditions. They provide patient support services, including medication management, adherence programs, and clinical support. eg. Accredo (Express Scripts), CVS Specialty (CVS Health), Optum Specialty Pharmacy (UnitedHealth Group), AllianceRx Walgreens Prime, Biologics by McKesson

4. Retail pharmacies: National Sales Perspectives (NSP) - Measures dollar and unit sales, National Prescription Audit (NPA) - dispensed prescriptions, Xponent (prescription information) or Prescriber Source from SHS

5. Patient Services data:

5.1> Patient HUB services like Onboarding and Enrollment, Benefits Investigation and Prior Authorization, Medication Adherence and Support

5.2> PAP/Copay: Patient / Copay assistance program

5.3> Claims: Includes medical claims, pharmacy claims
