Exit story: Your Focus Shapes Your Reality
In 2015, I was part of the marketing team at eInfochips (An Arrow Company). My role, along with over 10 colleagues, involved following up on leads and supporting sales. The job was demanding, with frequent night calls to prospect new clients. After three months, I started feeling overwhelmed by the workload. Each day, I convinced myself that there was no future for me in this role. By the end of six months, I decided to leave the organization. I had a good relationship with my manager, so I referred a friend and briefed him on the situation, which he accepted.
Fast forward to 2025, my friend is still with the company and thriving! What happened to all the work-life issues? While there were indeed problems, they were not insurmountable. Within 6-9 months, the team lead resolved most of them, significantly improving the work environment and reducing stress.
This experience illustrates that your focus shapes your reality, as demonstrated by this story:
A railway employee accidentally trapped himself in a refrigerator car. Unable to escape or attract attention, he resigned himself to his fate. He scribbled notes on the car's wall: “I am becoming colder. Still colder now. Nothing to do but wait. These may be my last words.”
When his body was found, there was no physical reason for his death. The car's temperature was a moderate fifty-six degrees Fahrenheit, as it was not connected to a power source. The freezing was only in his mind. There was plenty of fresh air; he had not suffocated.
