Decision story: Reducing the burden of decision making
There are many instances where you need approval from multiple teams, such as IT operations, IT security, and technical teams. For example, when releasing Tableau dashboards to a new client whose emails are not based on conventional mailbox providers like Office 365, you need to obtain exception permission from IT teams.
A simple approach is to write an email to the key contact (usually the IT head) outlining the background, issue, and request for approval, while copying all stakeholders. However, this places the entire burden of decision-making on the key contact.
A better approach is to support the decision-making process. Provide supporting documents to facilitate the decision, obtain written confirmation from the client that they will follow safe access protocols, and outline the process you will follow during operations assuring data safety. This way, you share the burden of decision-making and potentially receive faster approval.
