Communication story: Say it again or show it differently?
Recently, we conducted a detailed analysis involving multiple layers of data subsets. It was like Inception movie, dream within dream within dream
For example, out of a total of 20,000 patients, 5,000 were under the age of 2 years during their recent medical claims.
Among these 5,000 patients, 1,000 had a single diagnosis claim, while the remaining 4,000 had multiple diagnosis claims.
From these 4,000 patients, 200 were still under 2 years of age.
Explaining this in a straightforward manner might cause confusion. Re-reading the analysis might not help either (refer table 1).
Instead, consider presenting it differently. Although this approach might include some redundancy, it will facilitate quicker understanding for the audience (refer table 2).
While a flow diagram is more intuitive for representing this information, tabular data is preferable in Excel deliverables for easier referencing across sheets and applying formulas.
