During my childhood, I often traveled by bus during vacations. Most of the time, the journey was smooth, but occasionally, I would feel nauseated. Since these bus rides lasted 6 to 8 hours, I paid close attention to the driver’s habits (and I had nothing better to do in that time).

I noticed that drivers who kept both hands on the steering wheel and maintained a steady speed provided a much more comfortable experience. On the other hand, drivers who used only one hand on the wheel and frequently attempted to overtake other buses or trucks made the journey nauseating.

When a driver uses both hands on the steering wheel, it ensures smoother turns, better control, and overall stability. In contrast, steering with just one hand leads to sudden jerks and nausea for passengers. Unfortunately, the driver doesn’t experience this discomfort because their body is ready for the abrupt movements (And typically, these drivers believe they are the most skilled at driving 😊 ).

If you encounter a one-handed driver (particularly now, given that most of us are traveling by car, this driver is going to be your friend, relative or spouse) who is unwilling to use both hands (old habits die hard! 😜 ), consider using a neck rest for yourself. It will avoid the nausea caused by the jerky movements.
