Bias story: Give all the marketing collaterals!

In 2013, I was working in the marketing department at KPIT Pune, leading the marketing of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) product. I had designed, developed, and stored all the marketing collaterals. There was a conference in Delhi, and my manager and sales lead were already there. The next day, my colleague/friend was scheduled to attend the conference. My manager instructed my colleague to bring all the collaterals to Delhi.

I questioned the necessity of bringing everything and decided not to give him the larger items like hangouts, thinking it would unnecessarily burden his baggage. I preferred to travel light and didn't want to impose on him. Note that my colleague double-checked with me, asking if I was sure about not giving all the collaterals.

The following day, my manager called and asked about the hangouts. When I told him I didn't send them, he was furious. He pointed out that my only task was to hand over the collaterals, not to carry them to Delhi or set them up at the stall.

This incident taught me a valuable lesson about not letting my personal biases interfere with professional responsibilities.
