Since 2013, I’ve faithfully jogged 6 km every weekend. My LinkedIn stories, complete with photos, chronicle this decade-long commitment to exercise. Feeling proud of my health, I even encouraged others to follow suit.
Recently, I installed Google Fit, which shattered my blissful ignorance. The app revealed that my weekly exercise only earned me 100 Heart points / week, falling short of the recommended 150 points / week for a healthy lifestyle. Google Fit wisely benchmarked my data against standard requirements.
Similarly, in the realm of Incentive Compensation (IC), payouts to sales reps might seem normal—until we benchmark them. For instance, if 20% of high-paying reps receive 500% of their target pay, it might appear favorable for a growing brand. However, benchmarks suggest that only 5% of high-paying reps should fall within the 300%-500% range of target pay.
