In 2020, during an interview with the VP of client, I was explaining about working on IQVIA Xponent sales data. Sarcastically he asked, "IQVIA Xponent data have sales information?"
Despite my insistence that Xponent does indeed provide sales data, I eventually realized that it primarily delivers detailed prescriber-level prescription information for the U.S., including TRx data but not sales figures. (Although NRx multiplied by refills multiplied by $ per unit can indirectly give sales $ or TRx * $ per unit can give sales. But this data has less coverage and is projected, hence it is not recommended to use it for sales metrics)
My primary work had had been with SP (Specialty pharmacy) dispense data, which contains actual sales units and dollar sales value.
Additionally, IQVIA DDD data Drug distribution data lets you track the distribution of branded products to retailers and non-retail buyers in case units.
In summary, Xponent data has TRx (prescription), DDD has distributor level data (manufacturer to point of sales) and SP dispense data has unit sales (point of sales to the patients)
